‘time out for women’

Who they are

What they do

Benwerren is one of the few facilities in Melbourne that aims to strengthen families by providing time out for women and children. Set in picturesque Yarra Junction, Benwerren gives access to short term accommodation in a peaceful, nurturing environment for women who need a break or refuge so they can rest and be cared for.

Benwerren aims to minister to the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual well-being of those that stay. Their experience has shown, that with this support, many families have found the strength to overcome circumstances that otherwise may have led to family trauma.

As well as offering accommodation (time-out) Benwerren assists in obtaining welfare, legal and medical help where possible. Follow up service is also provided to offer continued support and friendship to women who leave their care.
Links are made with various sections of the welfare department, church, and other appropriate agencies on behalf of women in Benwerren’s care, where necessary.

What has been achieved with SCF.

SCF provides funding

for a staff member who is a mentor to guests coming to stay. This provides much needed support to the women, many of whom have experienced significant trauma.

For two ovens and an industrial dishwasher to upgrade the kitchen facilities. These new kitchen appliances have enabled staff to improve the meals they prepare for healthy living, nutrition and the social time spent around the meal table.

To sponsor four children who have stayed at Benwerren to attend a co-curricular sporting or musical program

and, contribute towards the purchase of the house and land that forms this fabulous sanctuary for women and children who are in dire distress and need of support.
